Zululand combines three of South Africa's most rewarding experiences within a few hours' drive — classic bush safari, Indian Ocean diving, and UNESCO wetland wildlife along the Maputaland coast.
Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park is the oldest proclaimed reserve in Africa and the heart of white rhino conservation — rolling hills, riverine forest, and reliable Big Five viewing on guided drives or self-drive loops. Sodwana Bay sits on the edge of iSimangaliso Wetland Park with reef dives from 9–30 metres, ragged-tooth sharks in season, turtles on night dives, and humpback whales offshore July–November. St Lucia village fronts a vast estuary where hippos and crocodiles browse lawns at dusk and boat cruises reveal kingfishers, fish eagles, and mangrove channels.
Fly into King Shaka International (DUR) in Durban or Richards Bay (RCB), then road transfer north. Zululand works as a standalone week, a diving add-on after Tofo, or the South African half of a Maputo–Ponta–Kruger–coast route. We match lodges, dive operators, and pacing to your mix of safari, reef, and estuary days.

Yes — Ponta do Ouro and Maputo are half a day north from Zululand; many itineraries link dolphin time in Mozambique with Sodwana dives or Hluhluwe safari in KwaZulu-Natal. We plan border crossings and timing.
Five to seven nights covers a solid safari-and-reef week. Shorter three- to four-night stays work if you focus on either Hluhluwe or Sodwana rather than both.
