Your luxury trip begins in Beira, where a scheduled light-aircraft flight takes you over the plains of central Mozambique to Chitengo, in the heart of Gorongosa National Park. From the airstrip, you are transferred to Chicari Camp, an intimate camp of luxury safari tents set beside a pan where animals gather at the waterhole — the perfect spot to watch elephants, waterbuck and warthog come to drink from the elevated deck in the trees. Over the next days, morning and afternoon game drives and guided walks with expert guides take you deep into one of Africa's greatest conservation success stories. Gorongosa's floodplains, palm savannahs and fever-tree forests are home to elephants, lions, buffalo, hippos, sable antelope and more than 400 bird species.

A game drive brings you to Muzimu Lodge, an exclusive tented lodge on the banks of the Mussicadzi River in a remote and rarely visited part of the park. Its East African-style tents and island tents each have their own deck and en-suite bathroom, and the plunge pool is the perfect spot to cool off between activities. Days at Muzimu follow the rhythm of the bush: early morning game drives or guided walks, long lunches and lazy afternoons, followed by an afternoon drive and sundowners in search of lions, wild dogs and the park's growing herds of elephant and buffalo.

Today you fly from Chitengo via Beira to Vilanculos, from where a boat transfer takes you across the turquoise waters to Bazaruto Island, the largest island of the Bazaruto Archipelago National Park.
