Ponta do Ouro / Parque Nacional de Maputo
Visão geral
Sobre Ponta do Ouro / Parque Nacional de Maputo
Ponta do Ouro sits on Mozambique's southern tip in Maputo National Park (formerly Maputo Special Reserve and Ponta do Ouro Partial Marine Reserve) — a 1,040 km² protected area combining coastal lakes, forest, mangroves, and coral reefs near the KwaZulu-Natal border. It is one of the easiest beach add-ons from Maputo or a cross-border trip from South Africa.
The region is renowned for ethical in-water encounters with wild bottlenose, spinner, and Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins — licensed operators follow strict codes of conduct developed over decades of research. Reef diving and snorkelling reveal coral gardens, reef fish, and seasonal whale sharks; loggerhead and leatherback turtles nest October–February. Golden dunes support sandboarding and 4x4 adventures.
Inland, Maputo National Park offers elephant, hippo, zebra, and antelope among coastal bush and lakes — often spotted on the sandy road from Maputo via the Katembe bridge. Access requires 4x4 in sections. Ponta delivers surf, sand, dolphins, and wild bush in one compact southern circuit.
